How We Operate: Wind Farm Owners

Bird Dog seeks to work with owner/operators of existing wind farms or other generators who seek to maximize the value of the associated interconnection rights by “adding” solar and/or battery energy storage to their facilities using the surplus interconnection provisions of FERC-jurisdictional and FERC-compliant transmission tariffs.   In particular, Bird Dog focuses on owner/operators who seek to own additional generation and/or storage assets and who can benefit from Bird Dog’s development experience and expertise in the wind, solar and energy storage space, including those without dedicated development teams.

Bird Dog aims to deploy its project development capital and expertise by carrying out activities such as:

  • land acquisition,

  • title clearing,

  • environmental and cultural resource surveys,

  • land use and related permitting,

  • optimizing the size and configuration of the solar and storage project components to maximize owner/operator benefits,

  • designing the electrically integration of the solar and/or storage surplus interconnection project into this electrical system for the existing wind farm / generator,

  • assisting the owner/operator in applying for and securing surplus interconnection rights.

Bird Dog’s principle approach is for the incumbent wind farm owner/operator to own the surplus interconnection solar and/or storage project.  However if so desired, Bird Dog can facilitate the purchase and sale of the energy and storage capacity from the surplus interconnection project via power purchase agreement, storage tolling agreement and similar commercial instruments.
